Which wide open lens with EOS C70?

Hello everybody,

A question here about Canon C70.

I have RF lenses, such as 24-105, 16mm, 35mm, and 70-200. I have only 2 EF lenses: 24 - 105 and 24mm, 50 mm.

I need wide-open lenses. So, which best choices do you recommend on a modest, budget?

Thanks!

I am sure these all have different maximum apertures. What Aperture do you need? Is your 50mm the f/1.8 or f/1.2?

What is your specific budget?

One way to obtain extra light-gathering with your EF lenses is by use of Canon's 0.71x EF to RF adapter which works very well with the C70. It won't change focal lengths, but it yields the same angle-of-view on the C70's Super 35 sensor as that lens would achieve on a full-frame sensor. For light-gathering, it provides a full stop.

As an example, my EF 50mm f/1.2L with that adapter on my C70, and set to f/1.2, will gather light as if it was an f/0.9 lens.

The 0.71x adapter isn't cheap though ($600).

Also note that you'd need to weigh in other variables. e.g. while the 0.71x adapter with 50mm f/1.2 lens is awesome at gathering light, that lens has no IS and thus the only IS you'd have without a rig (gimbal, etc.) would be to use the in-camera digital IS which can lead to issues for certain types of scenes. If you're on a tripod doing mostly static shots, it's awesome.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8l iii usm its a L lens so it would work much better just multiply 16-35 times .71 and that would be your field of view 2.8 is faster and brighter light but the 11-24 canon f4 would be cheaper and even more wider but not sure how sharp it will be compared to the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8l iii usm the 16 would be about 11mm and the 11 would be about 8mm

This is either a confusing explanation or incorrect.

You would multiply the focal length of the full frame glass by 1.5 (the crop factor of the lens) to find out the equivalent field of view it would offer on the C70. For example the EF 11-24 f/4 would be a 16.5-36 equivalent while the EF 16-35 2.8 iii would be equivalent to a 24-52.5.

I believe this comment was referring to the Canon 0.71 speed booster that is available for the C70. That accessory does in fact make a lens appear wider on the C70 body by condensing the full frame lens onto the super 35 body. There are a few major caveats though. The speedbooster is known to have horrible flaring, low contrast and a purple halation across the image when pointed at a light source (especially the sun). That being said. The equation for the speed booster is Lens Focal Length * 1.5x Crop Factor of the C70 * 0.71 Crop Factor of the Speed Booster. Effectively the same for as full frame but it does not make the lens wider than it already was on full frame cameras.

The extra stop of light would be nice however for applications such as architecture and landscape that wouldn’t be an optimal aperture. You’ll be sticking around f/5.6-f/8 for the most part in those situations.

Hope this helps!
