Converting mp4 to avchd

I used my Canon Vixia HF R50 for the first time and I wasn't aware it had two different formats to record in. It apparently defaulted to MP4. I've been able to view it on my PC but my Toshiba DVD player won't seem to play MP4. Are you able to convert it to AVCHD? I've tried Nero and several other avenues but not having much luck. I'm new at this.

Canon does not offer any software for the conversion of MP4 files into AVCHD.
