Hi CREATE_space,

The imagePROGRAF PRO-4100 is designed so that you can add other brands of paper to the printer using the Media Configuration Tool. The paper manufacturer will usually provide a digital file that ends in ".am1x", this is the file the Media Configuration Tool will use to update the printer and driver. The .am1x file will contain the paper information which usually includes the appropriate ICC profile. Please click HERE to go to the Manuals page to obtain the Guide for the Media Configuration Tool for your operating system. This solution will work for HP and other brand papers as well, such as Hahnemühle. I hope this is helpful.

imagePROGRAF PRO-4100 Help needed adding ICC Profiles

Hello,

I recently took over a lab that prints on both a Canon and an Epson LFDP. However, our department does not purchase Canon papers due to the cost passed onto students - our most common customers - and I am attempting to recalibrate both of our printers to print a variety brands of papers, however I am new to ICC Profiles.
Printers & Programs involved:
Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4100
Epson Stylus Pro 9900
Adobe Photoshop
ccStudio & colorcheckerStudio

To solve the problem of not having the correct ICC profiles I have come up with two possible solutions but need some guidance.
Possible Solutions:
1) Drag the Epson ICC Profiles for the Epson papers we have into the ColorSync, Canon ICC Profile folder. Would this be prevented by the 'dmdd' portion of the .icc file since it lists the device and model as Epson? If I delete the 'dmdd' portion of the file can I still add the .icc file?
2) If the first option is not possible, how do I add a custom profile for the papers to the Canon? Is this completed using Canon Device Management Console, Calibration Tool, Media Configuration Tool, or something else? I would presume I begin by printing using the closest possible ICC Profile, use ccStudio to calibrate and make a custom ICC Profile, and then add it to the Canon - is that correct?

One additional question, whichever solution is feasible, would it work for HP and other brand papers as well, such as Hahnemuhle?
