imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5540i Gray horizontal line on second page of 2 sided scan

I am trying to scan 16 pages of double sided paper on a canon ir-C5540 and a gray line appears about an inch from the top of the second side of each page. Does anyone know a work-around?
