Canon ipf9400 - remove dead printer and repurpose take up roller

My Canon IPF9400 recently died but i also have a IPF8400S. What i was hoping to do was take the printer of the stand and get an electrician to rewire the take-up roller. Then roll this into place as needed for the IPF8400S (or also EPSON T5200) printers.

Well we looked today and its not so straight forward as the power source to the motor is hard to trace back via the wiring. Has anyone got any knowledge that might be able to save at least a small part of this beast.

I am in Oz, and canon techs have already looked and the power surge that killed it has meant a lot of things are not functioning, and those that are 'may be impacted'. At nearly 10 years old thats not a bad run.

The aim is to reuse the take up roller and roll in/out in front of the either of the other two printers as needed.
