CANON-TM255 Can't detect paper size

We use roll paper for our canon, our old canon was good this one has constant issues.

when we reload the paper it just consistently says it can't detect the paper size and to reload. i can reload multiple times and continually turn the machine on and off in hopes and it doesn't work for ages

how can i fix this
