The fast fix is to establish/set a static IP address in router for the appropriate MAC address (network and wireless config) mode of printer outside of DHCP range. I have never had a problem since doing that even after turning on and off printer. This approach always works. Canon can not suggest based on liability and issues in different designs and configurations of different routers. The router people point to printer and printer points to router people noting they have to work together when a new device connects to router and "takes" the current address of printer when in sleep mode

I have modified my original message after talking to Linksys (Router) support and Canon support.

My OS on my computer is Vista 64-bit. My Router is Cisco Linksys E4200. I have one desktop computer, the printer, 2 iphones and 1 iPad. Seems to lose connection when printer goes into sleep mode. Rebooting the printer (OR rebooting the router) reestablishes the connection temporarily , usually for 6-9 minutes, it has stayed connect longer, but it always goes offline. I currently have the computer connected with a USB cable, but would like to use it wireless. To print from the iPad or iPhones you have to reboot the router or printer, then print. I have been told by Canon that it is a router setting, and I have just spoken to Linksys support today and they say it is the printer going to sleep that causes the loss of connection so the solution is not to change the router settings. Seems to me, there should be some way to turn off the 'sleep mode' feature on the printer (Canon support says there is no option to turn it off). That would solve the problem. Does anyone have a slotuion, apparently neither Canon or Linksys do. Thanks, Guy

I have exact the same problem, even if I give to the printer a static IP, after a while, the printer status goes from active to inactive, then only a OFF ON can bring the printer a life again. Looks like I have to dump this new printer and use my MX340 again which works wonderful, just no airprint, thats why I bought the MX922 😞

I found this same problem to be a result of my changing something (in my case, rearranging my office completely) in the wireless connection. I reloaded the Canon software CD and selected re-set up (or something like that) from the menu.

Doing so seems to have fixed the issue for me.

Don't give up too quickly. This may not be specific to your printer. I bought a new HP multifunction in October and it did the same thing. I could not recover it on the wireless network without powering it down and actually removing the power cord from the wall. Then it would come back until the next 'sleep' cycle. This was a documented HP issue and they were ignoring it. Printer went back and I bought a Canon MX922 which has worked for severl hundred pages of scanning, but now fails to scan a multipage 2-sided document to a .pdf file. Fails with Support Code 2804. Three different Canon techs worked several hours with me today, all very polite, courteous, knowledgable but we could not identify the issue - yet. Best we can determine is it may be some new scanning security in the financial docs I'm scanning.

Wireless printing ceased function (printer unavailable) suddenly for no apparent reason after many months of good functionality. No changes were made to the network. Now, all attempts to restore function have failed. I have spent several hours following all steps in a variety of articles. The printer is connected to the network but is unusable from any device. There is no reason this should be so complicated or difficult. I will avoid Canon printers in the future.

My MX922 had exactly the same problem; it dropped its connection to the router in 5-10 minutes and the only way to reestablish the connection was to power the MX922 down and power it up. I was using a DLink DI-825 router. I tried all of the cures described on the web and on this forum - static IP addresses, disabling ip6 addresses etc. nothing worked. I gave up and just powered the printer off and back on every time I planned to use it.

I recently replaced the router with a with a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. The problem of the MX922 dropping its wi-fi connection disappeared completely. I haven't had to power it off and on since the day I started using the new router.

For the record everyone in my household connects using Windows 7 or 8,1 and Android 4.2 and 5.0.

Don't know whether this will help those with sleeping MX922's, but will put my experience out there.

I bought a Canon MX922 in December 2014 and began to have wireless communications problems that started between my Windows 8.1 OS based computer and the printer after seveal months of use. The computer would lose communication with the printer; but could be re-iniated by re-installing the driver software on the computer.

Communication would only last for several days and then the printer would go silent (asleep) again and re-installation of software would begin again.

I also had an older computer running Windows XP connected to the same wireless U-VERSE gateway by cable (ethernet). It was apparently not affected by the wireless communications between the Windows 8.1 OS machine and printer. From this, it appeared to be a problem with the wireless machine running Windows 8.1 OS and its communication with the Canon MX922.

I called Canon and went through several extensive "song and dance" sessions which accomplished nothing. Everything they suggesed PASSED as computers, gateway, and printers are all in the same room and signal levels on all machines are 100%. However, this never stopped the printer from going to sleep.

Later, I inadvertantly discovered what the "printer" problem was in a failure of wireless communication between my computer and the Canon MX922 printer.

I discovered this from Norton when Norton 360 informed me that they could not run an update on my Windows 8.1 OS computer.

Norton then suggested that I UNLOCK FAST STARTUP on the Windows 8.1 based computer. (This can be found under the Control Panel in Power Options).

For some reason after unlocking the FAST STARTUP, the Printer Folder in the computer created a secondary MX922 Copy.

I deleted this secondary Canon MX922 Copy leaving the original alone.

After this, correct communication and operation between computer and printer occured. I have been using this configeration and it has worked ever since.

Apparently, the MX922 printer cannot handle (or at least was intermittant) in FAST STARTUP on the Windows 8.1 Operating System when each were in the wireless configuration!

All of my connection problems...every single one...went away when I upgrade my router. That's it. No settings changes on the printer or computer made any difference. Finally, I thought I'd bite the bullet and get rid of the $50 router I had and get a $200 Nighthawk. Boom - immediately all the issues were gone. I barely even think about it any more. Now, when I want to print something, the printer shows as active and I send my kids in to get the printout (usually it is something for their school). Perfect.

Nighthawk with stock firmware handles the mx922 fine. If you ever decide to go to xwrt vortex merlin firmware on the r7000 you will have to disable "wireless lan drx"

AMAZING! EUREKA! Thank you so much josepena64!! Changing our Verizon Router to use Channel 6 got our MX922 to work like it should over wireless.

I dedicated my username to you!

Note - if you're not a technical person please don't attempt altering your router in any way - get someone who knows how to do it.

I was having a similar problem with another Canon printer model (MG5420) which had been printing wirelessly for months from a variety of devices on my network, then suddenly lost the ability to print wirelessly.

After implementing a number of suggested fixes from Canon Support* which did not resolve the problem, I checked every single router setting I could find to see if something looked off. After I disabled an "enable wireless isolation" function, the printer began printing wirelessly again.

So for those who suddenly lose wireless printing ability, check router settings.

*even though they didn't come up with the ultimate fix, Canon Support was there on the weekend, responsive, polite and professional.

Article that might be helpful for others in the same boat:

http://helpdeskgeek.com/networking/how-to-troubleshoot-wifi-wireless-printers/

Here's another possible cause for the problem. Today, I connected remotely to my office from my PC with a secure VPN connection. The printer wasn't responding during the secure connection, and even after I closed the connection, not even from a Mac laptop. I tried rebooting the router and the printer and nothing worked. Finally, I shutdown everything and restarted, and printing started working, even for the Mac laptop. I haven't completely figured it out yet, but I think that the secure connection did something to the router that affected the printer, until I shutdown the PC that I was using for the secure connection. I've noticed this before, that sometimes the secure connection seems to affect the wireless network, but I haven't figured out what it is, only that shutting down the PC that had the secure connection seems to fix the problem.
