Connecting MG2120 to Mac via router

Hey there,

I'm trying to connect my Canon MG2120 printer to my Linksys 4500 router via a USB cable on my Mac (10.9). I go to Add Printer, insert the IP address of the router, Protocol: LPD (I've tried with IPP as well), Queue: Canon_MG2100_series, and then Use/Select Software/MG2100 series it gives me the following error: "Unable to verify the printer on your network. Uable to connect to "IP address" due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?

When I click continue it adds the printer but I have no functionality. I'm assuming it should automatically find the printer. Does anyone have any advice on how to make my non-wireless printer wireless? Any clues and hints would help.
