The problem is I cant find any instructions for a chrome operating system. There must be others out there? Drivers also?

Hi bigfootj33,

The Chrome operating system does not install printers drivers in order to print from the computer. That operating system uses Google Cloud Print. Please refer to the following PDFs:

I have the error message "type of print head is incorrect install correct print head"

I have followed the procedure recommended twice now but it still dose not fix the problem.

if you think I have to buy a new printer I have a pixma ma870 and just purchased a new bach of ink so can you recommend a replacement printer that takes the same ink

The inks used by the MX870 are only compatible with a handful of other units, and no such units are still in production. The full list is:
