Hello, yesterday I found that my 654cdw was not in my applications printer lists on all apps, when I went to print something. We have had the printer for about 3 years and it has always been there. We can still print from our phones. My laptop, an Acer Nitro V 16 is having this issue under Win 11 24H2, fully updated. The printer was still in the printer control panel, as usual. Physically, the printer is attached by LAN to a mesh satellite on my Eero 6 network.

I found that the printer spooler was turned off, while troubleshooting and was going to restart it. I did not turn it off. I started the spooler and the printer showed up in apps again. However, printing did not work, with the printing progress bar which pops up whilst printing showing no progress in the dialog box that pops up when it should be sending the job, even after an hour. The cancel button did nothing on the progress dialog. Only restarting the computer stopped the printing attempt. I tried this many times, including after restarting. I tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing. I took 6 times trying to uninstall the driver in the control panel, with driver removal failed messages resulting each time, then it finally was gone from the control panel after the 6th attempt.

Now, after downloading the Master driver installer for this printer from Canon and running it about 30 times by now, it will not install. The process sees the printer on the network with all the printer details, such as serial number, and connects to it successfully (it says), then downloads files, with the progress bar reaching the end, but when it says it's installing, it doesn't work, with the final page saying that installation failed and has buttons to restart the install, or quit. I tried with Windows Security turned off and it did the same.

I can ping the printers IP successfully. The printer worked fine the day before.

How can I get my printer working?

Greetings,

It sounds like an issue with your computer OS.

Printer is connected to your network. You can ping its IP. Print Spooler service found stopped with no user action, etc.

You mentioned the printer was physically connected to a mesh node on your network and that it responds to ping.

By chance are you using any third-party antivirus in addition to Windows Security (What comes with the OS?). This can cause installation issues.

Start by running system file checker from an elevated command prompt.

Click the start button (nothing else) begin typing.. command prompt. The command prompt icon will display, right click on it and select run as administrator from the context menu.

An elevated command prompt window will open.

At the prompt type >sfc /scannow and press enter. Allow the process to run. Let us know if any integrity violations are found and fixed or if none were found?

It would be a good idea to restart your computer after this.

After this, open Settings again and selects Apps from the navigation pane. Uninstall all Canon applications.

Restart the system again.

Visit the support portal for your device.

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/color-imageclass-mf654cdw?srsltid=AU7gw4VdG5XBeM99e45zVWPzEU8ISvIuGQhXMMqmckHq0X4YqBGhE2UF

Select downloads, Windows, Windows 11.

Download these two installation packages.

[Windows 64bit] MF656Cdw/ MF654Cdw/ MF653Cdw/ MF652Cw MFDrivers (Generic Plus UFR II / Generic FAX / ScanGear)

[Windows 32bit & 64bit] MF Scan Utility Ver.1.21.0.2

Run the first installer. If the printer is not automatically detected, use the IP address button and enter that address.

After the print and ScanGear driver installs, run the MF Scan Utility installer.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your response. I will run the scan. The canon.files you say to get and install are, of course the ones I having been struggling with. Actual, the scan one installed without issue in a few seconds.

I don't not have any 3rd party security software, just Windows Security. The same software I've had, without issue for 2 years with this laptop and a year with my previous laptop.

The scan did find and repair some "corrupted" files. I restarted. Removed the printer and scanner drivers. Restarted and installed the Master setup exe file (Msetup4.exe) for the 35th time, it found my printer, as always with all the correct parameters, connected to the printer, downloaded all the files and then failed during installation, as always.

Next theory?

I just lookednin printer setup and thebMF650C Series is there, even though the installer said Installation Failed. I tried the test page and it did not print. It appeared in the queue, but with no preview image and has just sat there for the last 5 minutes. I clicked "Resume All" from the 3 dot menu on the queue entry and the preview pic appeared, but didn't change the lack of printing the page. Last time I tried the test page, the same thing happened. I canceled it after 20 minutes, as I will now.

Greetings ,

It seems you followed some but not all of my instructions. I didn't suggest that you install the master setup. You tried this multiple times unsuccessfully. This is not a theory. I believe I was clear.

Your software and driver installation appears to be corrupt. I recommend you review my reply again.
