I just downloaded and installed it again, in case I had used the wrong version, and no change. When I use the IP address, it says Use: Generic PostScript Printer. If I use the pull down to "Select Software", it doesn't list anything by Canon. It does give an "other" option, but I don't know what I should select that might work. Most of the Canon software shows up but is grayed out. The Canon software at the link you posted doesn't actually have anything that says "drivers" - I assume it is part of the "Setup package" software.

Suddenly our Pixma TR8620a has disappeared from all of the computers in the house. If I input the IP address directly, it only registers as a "generic printer" and will not print. Things I have already done: 1) deleted and reinstalled all of the printer software, 2) unplugged the printer/shut down and restarted the computer, 3) reset the settings on the printer and reconnected it to the Wi-Fi. I have checked my Spectrum account and it shows up on their page as well. I am a little concerned that if I try and delete it there, it may not reinstall based on the fact that nothing seems to be working. I am on Mac OS Sonoma 14.8.1.

One thing that I did notice was that the Canon driver software appears to be included within another software package, maybe that is an issue?

Yes, the setup package contains the driver. Did the site detect you have a Mac and on the right did it detect Sonoma version 14? FYI your printer will work on both a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz WIFI network.

No, it's detecting Catalina and that's what I downloaded the first time, but I used the pull down and changed it to Sonoma this last time. I checked the Spectrum app and it's running on the 2.4Ghz. Everything works fine until I get to the "Add Printer" part and then it just won't ever show up under "Default". It even got disconnected yesterday for a while because of a Spectrum outage and I was hoping the new manual reconnect that I did would solve the problem but no.

Greetings,

I haven't seen the spectrum router app but I'm sure it has the option to set the IP address that the spectrum router has currently assigned to the printer and reserved or static IP. This will keep the IP address from changing should the printer be powered off, go to sleep or not be used for an extended period of time. I scoured the spectrum site but their documentation is poor. When you're in the app, look at the list of connected devices and drill down on your printer. There should be an option to manage or reserve an IP address. It may be under advanced features to.

On your Mac, open the printers and scanners applet select the printer in the list of devices and use the minus key (-) to remove it. Close the applet.

Now using Finder open up the Applications folder and drag all Canon software applications to the trash can.

impoetant. Now restart your Mac.

Open The printers and scanners applet. Click on the globe icon which is just to the right of the default add printer icon. The interface will change.

Enter the IP address that you have reserved on the router for your printer in the address field.

Leave the protocol as IPP. Leave the queue field empty.

You'll notice that the Name field below will have populated with the same IP address entered above. The name field is editable. Give your printer a friendly name. It can be anything you want. Leave the location field blank. In the Use field just leave whatever's set as default, generic, IPP printer whatever it is.

Press add. Now run the correct software installer for your operating system. When that's complete, return to the printer properties and change the Use drop down to the correct Canon driver. Close all the dialogs and test printing.

If your printer does not appear in the list of printing devices with its IP address. You have not reserved or assigned a static IP to your printer. This is important for persistent and reliable communication.

I did all that but the Canon software doesn't find the printer either, and it sends me back to the empty applet. I shoudl say that it finds it on one screen, but then not in the applet.

Screenshot 2026-09-10 at 1.20.39 PM.png

Screenshot 2026-09-10 at 1.21.00 PM.png

Screenshot 2026-09-10 at 1.23.17 PM.png

Update: I was able to connect the printer to my iPhone from the printer itself and I noticed that the printer had disconnected from the Wi-Fi. I reconnected and viola, I can see my printer and added it as default. However, I STILL can't add the printer drivers because the printer driver software is still doing the same thing as above.
