How to connect PIXMA G4210 printer to new Wi-Fi router

What do I have to do to connect my Pixma G4210 printer to my new Wi-Fi router?

I have a Pixma G4210 megatank printer. We replaced the Verizon Wi-Fi router with a T-Mobile unit (TMO-G4AR). The usual prescribed methods of connecting the printer to the new network failed. Going from Wireless Lan setup to the various choices, I clicked “OK” on Manual; when the search function found my router, I pressed “OK” and the screen indicated the printer was connecting to the network before flashing the error lamp and informing me the connection had failed.

After attempting this a few times, I then scrolled to “Other” connection methods that also offered manual input. Finding the network router, it asked that I input the router’s password. The router has an 11-digit password. The printer only allows for 10-digits of input!

After inputting the 10 digits, the printer no longer allows me to input the password in “Manual” mode. Using T-Mobile’s app, we changed the router’s password to a 10-digit password. However, having input a password once, the printer no longer permits me the ability to input a new password: when it finds the network and I press the “OK” button, it instantly attempts to connect, always without success.

Following directions on these pages, I uninstalled the printer from my computer and downloaded the latest drivers from Canon and began the setup process. The setup process failed to connect to the printer and everything ended.

I think the easiest route should be if I can regain the ability to input the password in via “Manual” mode. Is there any way of accomplishing this?

The g4210 cannot run on a 5ghz network signal it has to have a 2.4ghz in order to connect.

This is the guide, notice when your printer finds your network, hit the okay button twice then enter the new password.

Thank you very much for the information about the inability of the printer to handle 5ghz.

Thanks as well for the instructional that you linked. Unfortunately, it does not work. I had found this early on and, repeating my original comment, in "Manual" mode the printer still tries to connect automatically without asking for the password. My thinking is that something in the printer's software is directing it to do this and I am hoping there is a fix to correct it.

Greetings ,

You need to uninstall, restart your PC and rerun the setup utility in order to configure the printer to connect to the new wireless network.

Thanks Rick. I tried that as well and everything came to a halt when the computer could not connect to the computer. I'll try it again.

Yeah, I guess that's what I'll have to do. Thanks, Derrick. I tried Rick's suggestion again and it did not work, again. Second time through, the computer found the printer but the printer failed to connect to the computer, so the setup stopped. Frustrating when the equipment software fails to operate the way the instructions say it will operate.

I will be away from the scene for about two weeks but will report back the results of this and/or any other solutions offered.

Well I have been away from this for a couple of weeks, solving all of the world's other problems, but I came back to it this week. Derrick hit the nail on the head with his info that the printer will not work on a 5G network, that it need 2.4gh. Even that turned into a wrestling match. As mentione, the new router is a T Mobile, "White" gateway. This alone is a true pain in the testicles, because, while changes to the network are readily available, T Mobile only makes this capability available on a mobile phone app -- no computer controls available, thank you. Okay, so I downloaded the app (this is my GF's hoe and she made the router change, then turned to me for help with the printer).

I changed the network from 5gh to 2.4gh and the printer was still unable to connect to the router. I have a USB cable but could not communicate with the printer in a fashion that allowed me to tell it what router password it should be searching for.

Finally, I set up a new network on the T Mobile unit, giving it a separate name and its own password, at 2.4 gh. The printer found this network name, asked for the password, and connected to the new network immediately. I then uninstalled the printer from my computer, reloaded it and I am now in business.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially Derrick's
