New to this and having a problem with a Canon ImageCLASS MF753cdw printer/scanner.

It suddenly would not do anything. It would not print or scan. I called Canon Support and he was on the phone with me for more than an hour with resolution by installing the generic Windows print driver. I can no longer use the MF Scan Utility. I have to use Windows Scan App (which sucks). I'm not sure what changed. The Canon tech thought it was a problem with my router but I confirmed that is not the case by hooking the printer up to my Starlink and nothing changed.

My system:

Windows 11 25H2

ImageCLASS MF753cdw

Firmware ver 8.0

Connection is a wired network.

Any help appreciated

Thanks 73

Greetings ,

Using a generic print driver from Microsoft is limiting and does not allow you to fully utilize all of the printer's features.

I suggest you start over. You need two installers in order to get full functionality from the Printer under Windows OS.

Here's a link for the printer support portal:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/color-imageclass-mf753cdw?srsltid=AfmBOooV0OozWXeAblgxh6_h1oZcftRaEohhG5a9sBHyLeihDJogyrm3

The two installers you need are:

[Windows 64bit] MF753Cdw/ MF751Cdw MFDrivers (Generic Plus UFR II / Generic FAX / ScanGear)

And

MF Scan Utility v1.21.0.2

Let's see if we can get you back on track.

Before we start, I have a question. You mentioned using a wired connection to your router and starlink. Is the router you're using third party or were you referring to a starlink router? Gen 1 and Gen 2 routers do not offer wired LAN without adapters. Gen 3 and gen 4 do. I just want to ensure I have a correct understanding of your environment.

Start by completely removing the printer, from your Windows 11 computer. This is done under Settings Bluetooth and devices, Printers.

Once complete, uninstall all Canon software associated with the printer. This can be done under Settings, Apps or from Control Panel programs and features. When complete, restart your computer.

Now run the first installation utility. This is the MF print driver that includes ScanGear. When complete, you can run the MF scan utility installer v121.0.2.

Note: To be successful, you must completely remove the printer and all of its software before performing the above steps.

Thanks for the reply.

The tech from Canon had me remove everything as you described and use the Installer file you mentioned. I did not remove and reinstall the MF Scan Utility. The tech even had me delete the files folders at C:\Windows\twain_32.

After all was done, I can only print and scan via the generic Windows printer driver.

The router I have in the house is a Synology and the printer is hooked up to it via a wired connection. The tech was thinking that the printer was not communicating with the computer because of the router. After the fact, I setup my Starlink Mini dish next to my office and connected the printer and computer via Wifi. It still did not work. So I feel like that says it is not the router. Makes sense?

I will give it a go with the steps you describe. Give me a day or 2.

Thanks 73

Kent N6WT

Greetings,

Before proceeding, let's confirm communication.

Login to the admin portal of your router and view the list of attached devices. Verify the IP the router has assigned to the printer.

On your computer, open a command prompt and ping that IP address. Does it reply?

Do you have any third party antivirus software installed that might be affecting communication on your network?
