imageCLASS MF665cdw - Why Does Each User Need Drivers?

I just setup a new canon mf665cdw for 15 users on Win 11 machine. Why does each user have to install the driver to print and scan? Shouldn't the driver already be available on the computer? Having to download the driver to print and scan is very frustrating.

Did you install as a user or as the computer administrator?

The IT Shortcut for 15+ Users

You do not actually need to manually download and run .exe installers 15 separate times if you are the network administrator. You can save hours of work by centralizing the setup:

Use AirPrint / Mopria: If your 15 users just need to print standard documents and don't need advanced faxing or scanning functions, bypass driver installations entirely. Have users add the printer using Apple AirPrint or Windows/Android built-in Mopria protocols.
Windows Print Server: To install drivers on every machine silently, set up a Print Server on a central PC or local server. You can then map the printer to each user's PC via the network; the driver will install automatically without requiring administrative privileges on each client computer.
Direct Network Mapping: If you want full features without running the setup wizard 15 times, extract the master Canon driver .exe file to get the .inf file. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer manually using an IP address, and point the computer to that .inf folder over your network.

How did you setup for 15 users?

Is the printer installed on one computer, which is SHARING the printer? This does not reuire the printer driver on the 15 computers.

Or are you doing it some other way?

What's not 100% clear? Based on the users original post, It sounds like there are 15 user profiles on one computer.

If that's the case, then installing the printer on a network server with a print server role, or the direct network mapping would be the best options. This would provide full driver support and functionality. The drivers only have to be installed to the server hosting the printer.

Can you clarify just how you are trying to do this? If you have 15 user profiles on the one computer, software shouldn't need installing under each user's logon. UNLESS.....the printer was installed to be used by just the administrator, rather than for all users.
