imageCLASS MF634Cdw driver installation: Admin privileges vs logged in as Admin

When I install the driver software, it requires that I'm logged in as an Admin rather than using Windows UAC to provide Admin privileges for the installation. Why is this the only application I've ever installed that requires this? Is there a way around it I'm unaware of? This is a corporate environment, so Domain Admin accounts don't have login permissions and creating a local Admin Account just for this one application requires setting up an entire profile in Windows which seems excessive and a waste of hard-drive space and IT time.

It's a networked MF634cdw, and I'm using Win11, though this has been true for Win7 and Win10, too. How does any of this information guide your answer? Doesn't seem relevant.

Hello!

Thanks for the specs. To answer your question on why we asked: The software architecture for our PIXMA (consumer inkjet) line is vastly different from the imageCLASS (laser) line. Knowing you have an MF634Cdw confirms that we can use the enterprise-level driver workaround, which isn't always an option for other models.

The "Why" (Technical Context)

You are correct—the standard Setup.exe wrapper for this model attempts to install the MF Scan Utility and Toner Status Monitor services. These background agents often require a persistent Admin profile to write specific registry keys, which a temporary UAC elevation can fail to authorize in strict Domain environments.

The Workaround: "Have Disk" Installation

Since you are in a corporate environment, the best path is to bypass the Setup.exe entirely and install the driver via the Windows Driver Store (INF method).

Steps:

Go to the MF634Cdw Support Page (linked below) and download the Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver.

Run the
.exe
file to extract it, but cancel the installer wizard if it launches automatically.

Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Printers).

Click Add device > The printer that I want isn't listed.

Select Add a printer using an IP address and enter the MF634Cdw's IP.

When asked for the driver, click Have Disk...

Browse to the folder you extracted in Step 2. Navigate to the
Driver
subfolder and select the
.INF
file.

Proceed through the wizard.

This installs the print function purely via Windows, skipping the permission-heavy utility software.

Let us know if this gets you up and running!
