Purchased Canon LBP247dw printer last August. Installed it w/o any problems, skipping Remote UI, and, as a consequence, skipping System Manager Mode. Used the printer via WiFi seamlessly. Windows 11

Recently I had to install a new router. I went to connect the printer via the new router.

Menu - Preferences - Network

However, when I touch Network it goes to System Manager Login, asking for System Manager ID and password, which I never set up and, obviously, do not have.

How do I get out of this predicament?

Hello, and thanks for reaching out!

We understand how frustrating it is to hit a login wall, especially after the printer was working perfectly with your old Wi-Fi setup. The System Manager Mode is a critical security feature, and accessing the network settings for the LBP247dw requires administrator privileges, which is why you’re being prompted for the System Manager ID and PIN.

Detailed Troubleshooting and Guidance

Phase 1: Regaining Access (System Manager ID/PIN)

Your goal is to gain access to the
Network
submenu. Even if you "skipped" the Remote UI setup, the system may have defaulted or required an administrator entry.

Test the Factory Default:

System Manager ID: 7654321

System Manager PIN: 7654321

Enter these values when prompted on the operation panel. If they are accepted, proceed directly to Phase 2.

Pro Tip: Check for Blanks or Common Variations

Though unlikely to work if the prompt is active, try leaving the fields blank if
7654321
fails.

Limitation: Since the network setup requires this login, the ID/PIN is definitively active. The most reliable path is to use the default or contact support.

Phase 2: Connecting to the New Router

Once you are successfully logged into System Manager Mode:

Navigate back to the main menu and select Menu.

Go to Preferences ➡️ Network (this should now open without the login prompt).

Select Wireless LAN Settings.

Choose Standard Setup and follow the on-screen prompts to select your new router's network (SSID) and enter the Wi-Fi security key.

Phase 3: The Critical Step if the PIN is Forgotten (Accuracy & Honesty Rule)

If the System Manager ID and PIN have been changed from the default (
7654321
) and you do not know the new values, the printer is effectively locked for administrative tasks like network configuration.

Plainly Stated Limitation: We cannot provide the process to manually override or bypass a forgotten System Manager PIN through a public forum post. For security reasons, Canon requires personalized support to perform a factory reset that clears the System Manager settings, as this often involves a special service sequence.

Need more help? Our dedicated support team can walk you through the reset process safely.

Our support team is happy to help at canon.us/account or 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666). Support is available Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm (ET).

Thank you for the quick response ! Followed your suggestions. Successfully connected to WiFi. On control panel WiFi is now shown as working (no longer a red x). All listings on the sub-menus show everything is fine. However, when I try to print I get either a printing error (does not say what kind) or an unknown status. Would it be simpler if I did a "factory reset" and connect the printer like I did when I received it, but with the new router? If yes, how do I go about it?

Greetings ,

If the printer is already connected to the new Wi-Fi, there's no reason to do a factory reset.

Delete the printer instances from printers and scanners under settings.

Uninstall the print driver from Programs and Features.

Restart your system.

Visit the support portal for your printer.

Canon Support for imageCLASS LBP247dw | Canon U.S.A., Inc. https://share.google/HnDtSn7gY00iFSJWy

Select downloads.. Select your operating system.

Download the setup. Utility.

Run the installer. An updated printer instance should be installed. Test printing.

Thanks.

Deleted printer. When tried to uninstall from apps it would not allow me saying there were files in the print queue. I tried to get around this and ended up with my system's network adapter not recognizing the WiFi. Then I made the connection, the system told me I was connected, but it is not showing up as usable, and the little icon on the tray showed no internet. I can get on the net using a dongle, but the connection is weak (was very strong with adapter before all this calamity). Tried all kinds of restarts, etc., - no use.

To remove stale items in your print queue you can stop and restsrt the Print Spooler service in the services.msc applet.

If the network adapter on your system is having issues connecting to your Wi-Fi broadcast, right click on the saved wireless profile and select forget. You should then be able to make a new connection choosing the SSID that's broadcasting and entering the password for the wireless network. Any device will have an issue if it's proximity challenged. Try moving your router to a better location. If it's in close proximity to stone, glass, heating or plumbing this can also cause an issue. Unfortunately most external Wi-Fi adapters are not very reliable or robust.

Things to keep in mind. 2.4 GHz broadcasts have greater range at the expense of less bandwidth. 5 GHz broadcasts offer higher bandwidth at the expensive less range. The printer should be connected to a 2.4 GHz broadcast. The PC can be connected to 5 GHz broadcast but if the signal is too weak you'll have to settle for 2.4. Maybe you can move stuff around for a more optimal setup.
