How I can print from my PIXMA iX6820 without a wifi connection from iOS?

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can print without a wifi connection from iOS? I have a pixma iX6820. I've tried using a mini travel router to tether my printer to my iPhone.

The ix6820 supports three connection options, wireless, ethernet and USB. The feature you are inquiring about is called wireless direct, but this model does not support that feature. It should be possible to use a portable router wirelessly for connection as long as it supports 2.4 GHz and WPA2 encryption.

Howdy @shadowsports ! Looks like I'll have to get rid of mine. 😭 The travel router usually takes about 10 steps each time I want to print and it's never a sure thing. I want a Pixma, I need a printer that prints quality art posters and photos. I print at flea markets and typically there's no wifi.

1. Can you recommend anther printer that comes with wireless direct connection with similar print quality. I'd prefer an older model so I can get a better price.

2. I have a friend selling a Pixma Pro 200 (without the s) Does this come with Wireless Direct Connection?

3. They did a nozzle check pattern print out, I saw it and it looks good. Is this enough proof that it works well to purchase it?

4. If you have any ideas for a simpler work around to get my iX6820 printing in the "wild" without wifi, I'd appreciate it.

Using your hotspot, you can use AirPrint, however, you have to make sure your hotspot doesn't have "isolation" enabled - that keeps your devices from seeing each other. You also have to make sure your iOS device and the printer are connected to the *same* WiFi network. For example, your phone can't be on 5G while your printer is on WiFi - they won't see each other.

Hi, I looked it up but it seems that apple does not support turning off "isolation" .

Yes, each time I select the same wifi network for both devices.

I think you may want to consider buying a different router.. One that doesn't need so much management. Properly configured it should not require a 10-step process to print. Years ago I bought a travel router to connect an old receiver to my wireless network. It was inexpensive and allowed simple connectivity. Ethernet to wifi.

Of course you can buy a different printer that has Wi-Fi direct but if you like the one you have now, it might be less expensive to add the router. Travel routers are inexpensive.

It can be dual or tri-band. 2.4, 5G, etc. The printer will connect to its 2.4 GHz broadcast. I would suggest giving it a static IP address. Routers do not block communication between connected devices unless told to do so. This means that devices will be able to see each other and communicate regardless of their connection method. Ethernet, 2.4, 5G and so forth.

Do not use your mobile device as a hotspot, as mentioned, your devices will not be able to see or communicate with each other when connected to it. Internet connectivity is not required on a wireless network. A router will facilitate network connectivity between devices connected to it. This would allow printing, file transfer, etc.

I've seen a lot of people use this type of setup at trade shows for basic documentation and receipt printing when internet connectivity is not needed.
