Greetings ,

Yes. There is absolutely a better way. I assume you are using these devices on a network.

Assign each printer astatic IP address at their respective locations. This is done on your router(s). It only needs to be done once.

Now remove the devices from your computer, then restart your system. Reinstall each instance (location) as an IP printer. It's much easier to identify a device by its IP address. Since it's static and assigned it will never change.

You can still use a friendly name for the devices "home" and "away", but you won't have to spend time sifting through the IJ network utility trying to identify which device is which. When you are at one location the other device will show offline.

Easy way to select which of 2 TR8620a printers at different locations to scan to from PC

Greetings...

I have on TR86620A at home, and the same model in another home.

I have no problems with printing, since one device is called "Printer-Home", and one called "Printer-Away".

The issue is with scanning...when I scan, I have to change which one to use via the "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2" tool, and figure out MAC addresses:

Is there a better way, like creating another instance of the scanners in question? From here perhaps?:

Notice also, that the "Product Name" above is not my printer's name.

Any advice/work arounds would be appreciated.

OK...interesting solution.

Currently, the two printers do show up as separate devices, and the one which isn't on the network I am currently on does show up as "offline".

When using the IJ scan utility, will there be two "Product Names"? that is where I have the problem, when starting a scan.

Can't do it now, but will try when I pack up to go to my other place next week. I will set up the static down here (easy to find them using OpenWRT), then set up the static at theother when I get back, and give it a try.
