Thanks for posting!

While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, the Canon PIXMA MG6120 has been retired. That means we do not offer support for the printer or updated drivers. We recommend updating to a more modern printer and reaching out to our Canon Upgrade Program specialist who will go over the best options for upgrading your printer. They can be reached at 866-443-8002.

Not being the original owner and having access to the software makes it useless. That seems like such a waste for a product that is perfectly capable of working. They just don't allow for good products to last a long time. That seems very wasteful to me.

I completely agree! I've been using the MG6120 for many years. It's held up well, produces very good photos on photo paper. The only drawback is that it sucks up ink, which is very expensive to replace for the quantity you get. Cannon discontinuing updates and availability to be used with my MAC is a travesty. I just bought $180 of ink to last me a while only to find out that I CAN NOT USE this printer. This just plain STINKS. At least, provide one additional update, which will last, so we can use it, instead of needing to buy a new printer, when it isn't really necessary.

You can find the drivers here;

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mg6120?srsltid=AfmBOopMlDk4QWvhN1XJtWXzubi3JyZmzi8p--1PbqyR2E1Gv9acOkAr

However, so far after loading the right driver, I get an error message that there is no driver when I try to add it. Good luck. Jim

Yeah. That's the rub... any and all drivers, that I've tried, are out of date and do not work.
As far as I'm concerned. CANNON SUCKS. I will NEVER purchase any of their products EVER AGAIN!
If you CANNOT RELY on them and their products to work for the long term, there is no reason to buy their products. And yes, I am that POed.

I got it to work!!! (try downloading MG6100 series MP Driver Ver. 1.05 (Windows 10/10...))
I bought a new HP Windows 11 and had trouble connecting to my Canon MG6120. I found the driver download
https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mg6120 and like you it didn't work. After reading this other post https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART133531 and the following Gemini AI suggestion...

The website might automatically detect your operating system as Windows 11. However, since there are no official Windows 11 drivers, you might need to manually select an older Windows version (like Windows 10, Windows 7, or even Vista) from the dropdown menu to find the available drivers.

... I decided to redownload the driver, but this time select "Windows 10 (x64)". Upon selecting Windows 10 (x64), I noticed additional drivers appear at the bottom and selected MG6100 series MP Driver Ver. 1.05 (Windows 10/10...). Upon completion of installing the driver it asks you to find/select the printer... and that was basically it. Note - if you don't see the printer in your wi-fi, you may need to connect via usb, or google printer and wifi detection.

I got it to work for my new HP Window 11.
Instead of downloading the driver for Windows 11, try telling it that you have a Windows 10 (x64) and download the driver at the bottom called MG6100 series MP Driver Ver. 1.05 (Windows 10/10 x64/8.1/8.1 x64/8/8 x64/7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP/XP x64).

Direct Link to Driver:
https://pdisp01.c-wss.com/gdl/WWUFORedirectTarget.do?id=MDEwMDAwMjkyNDAz&cmp=ABR&lang=EN

Congrats to all! Unfortunately for me, I use a MAC. However, I did find a universal driver that does connect to my printer. So, I'm good. FYI: I don't remember how or where I found it. I downloaded and tried many drivers until I found the one that worked.

Just some general comments for this thread.

In situations like these, it's important to consider the following.

The MG6120 is 14yrs old. It's not possible for any manufacturer to support products in perpetuity.

We'd all love it if appliances, peripherals and computers could last forever. Most people don't keep cellular phones, computers or printers for 10 plus years. Apple and Google won't support mobile devices that are end of life, Microsoft and Apple won't support operating systems or hardware typically after 10 or more years.

Another reason for this is parts availability. Canon doesn't manufacture all of the parts used to manufacture their products and if a vendor stops producing parts, then it cannot be repaired. Hardware and architecture is constantly changing and some hardware cannot be supported under more modern operating systems or hardware architecture. Canon like other manufacturers do their best to support a product as long as they can, but in some cases it can't be done. This can impact a products life cycle and service life.

So it's not unreasonable to expect that a product cannot be supported forever. Canon does have an upgrade program that offers a small discount and free shipping. They have specialists who can help you identify a new product that'll fit your needs and budget.

They can be reached at the number below.

Canon Upgrade Specialist at 1-866-443-8002, available Monday through Saturday.

Hope this is helpful.🙂
