WARNING, DO NOT GET INVITED TO A CHAT WHEN SETTING UP YOUR PRINTER. IT'S A SCAM.

Hey Canon, your response to the other person totally missed the mark. I have also experienced a costly scam yesterday that was launched from links on YOUR SITE. See my browser history below.

I WAS FOLLOWING THE PROMPTS TO SET UP MY TS3722. AFTER SOME FAILED ACTIONS THAT LOOKED LEGITIMATE I WAS INVITED TO A CHAT. THEN THEY CALLED ME, CONVINCED ME TO SHARE MY DESKTOP AND PHONE AND THEY HACKED SEVERAL OF MY ACCOUNTS, BOUGHT GIFT CARDS AND STOLE LOTS OF MONEY.

The Phone Number they called me on for supposed Chat Support was 858 877-6029. They claimed all the time passing was due to slow internet downloading drivers. Meanwhile they were digging around and exploiting their access through my PC and phone.

Please track these guys down and eliminate them.

Yup, you're right. I fell for the nasty look-alike URL ijstartcanon.com that came up on the second page of a Google Search. Why aren't Canon or Law Enforcement doing something about that? The site looks very authentic. If nothing else, trademark violation from your perspective?

We're sorry this happened to you, but the responsibility is ultimately yours. Sometimes people post here and are unwilling to accept responsibility for their own actions. "I typed the URL wrong but it's someone else's fault". No one wants to admit it happened to them or that they made a bad decision, then have to deal with the consequences. These are criminals who will try and trick you any way they can. Canon has no control over this and cannot police the internet.

Regardless of the situation, know your audience. It's within your control (yours alone) to verify someone's identity. If you provided financial information to these people, contact your financial institution or credit card company. Request a replacement card.

If you granted them access to your PC, it should not be trusted until you are sure it hasn't been compromised. If you are not sure how to do this contact an IT professional. Again, these stories are unfortunate, but Canon has no control, no responsibility and nothing to do with the choices people make in these situations. Exercise caution and be careful. Scammers are organized, deceptive and extremely crafty.
