- I switched to a new Internet Provider and got new router.

Company: Quantum Fiber

Router model: C5500XK

- Firmwares: Both Router and Printer are up to date with firmwares

- Issue: During printer wireless setup, printer finds my Wifi name, I select it, but it errors out with "failed to connect to the wireless router" I have tried everything, including resetting everything in the printer, but nothing works. Called Quantum fiber, Tech support says their router can automatically pick up all frequencies 2.4, 5GHz etc, and since everything else is being connected in my home with 2.4 and 5Ghz, that the issue is not them, that it is Canon.

I can connect printer via LAN and Direct print, but not wirelessly. I was able to connect before with (through WPS button) but the new router does not have a WPS button or a code available. My printer is a sitting duck and I need help please, thank you.

Hello!

Try running this on one of the computers on your network: https://canon.us/MG7720Setup

It should uninstall the Canon software, re-install it, and pair the printer to your new network.

Greetings,

The C5500XK is an ONT/Router. It does not have wireless capability.

C5500XK SmartNID User Guide | Quantum Fiber

Are you using it in conjunction with a WiFi360 or your own device?

Quantum offers different pods WiFi 6 or WiFi 7. According to the Quantum site the pods should not be mixed. Both are backwards compatible with WiFi 5 and 2.4Ghz.

The MG7720 supports 2.4Ghz wireless and WPA2 /AES encryption. The first thing to do is confirm the new wireless is properly configured to support these standards. Often new devices come preconfigured to utilize the same SSID name for all broadcasting networks and in many cases are configured to use WPA3 encryption (only).

After some digging, I found this information about their WiFi7 pods.

Their WiFi7 pods have good specs. They may however be preconfigured to use WiFi3. Use the Quantum App to check.

See if there is a WPA3/WPA2 or WPA2. See my example.

The other thing you can try is (if supported) giving each broadcast and unique name (example) MyHouse2.4, MyHouse5, MyHouse7 and connect the printer to the 2.4 Ghz broadcast. You can also temporarily disable all but the 2.4Ghz band, make the connection and then turn the others back on.

Stephen's recommendations are spot on, but if the Quantum wireless is not configured to support the printers requirements (2.4 & WPA2) its not going to connect.

The same will apply if you are using your own wireless hardware in conjunction with the C5500XK. 🙂

Thank you for the reply. The issue still exists. Spoke to 5 different reps including a manager and they all state the Modem (C5500XK) and the WiFi 7 Pod (W1700K) installed in my home have no issues connecting to 2.4 or 5 ghz frequency. He is right, I do have a TV from 2019, security Cameras from 2018, and a portable game device from 2024 that all connect via 2.4 ghz frequencies and they all connect just fine, the only one not connecting is the canon printer.

I went to the advanced menus for the modem and there are no settings for WPA2 or Wifi 3. I also asked the manager about this and he said that because there is no need to configure these WPA2 settings and the like, that there is no need to have these options and therefore they are not present on their end or on my end, I will upload image of the settings that I have once I go into the advance modem settings.

Very frustrating to say the least, not sure what else I can do.

I checked the app. I do have access to the wireless pod but there is little to no settings on what you can manage. I can manage my connected devices and change things like, the name of the device, add a new wireless pod but that is about it. Sigh, I see no resolution in-sight, please let me know if there are other ideas for this. Thank you.

I found my answer and now I can print with no issues from my home quantum wifi:

*** Please read all steps before starting ***

I resolved this issue with the help of a Quantum Fiber technician using this exact printer model (Canon 7720). I have the same printer, and it works correctly on my home Wi-Fi. Follow the steps below carefully:

On your phone, open your mobile hotspot settings.

Rename your hotspot SSID to match exactly the name of your home Wi-Fi.

Set the hotspot password to match your home Wi-Fi password.

Change the hotspot band from 2.4 GHz only to “2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.”

Save the changes.

Turn on your mobile hotspot.

On the Canon 7720 printer, open the network/Wi-Fi setup menu and attempt to connect the printer to your mobile hotspot.

It may fail the first few attempts—keep retrying.

After a few tries, the printer should detect two networks with the same name and prompt you to choose between using one or multiple networks.

Select “Use multiple networks.”

When prompted, enter the Wi-Fi password (same as your home Wi-Fi).

Allow the printer a few minutes to connect successfully to the hotspot.

Once the printer is connected to the mobile hotspot, turn off the hotspot on your phone.

The printer will temporarily lose the hotspot connection—this is expected.

Wait a couple of minutes.

Go to your computer and try printing or scanning.

Your computer should now detect the Canon 7720 on your home Wi-Fi, and printing/scanning should work normally.

After everything is working, you may rename your mobile hotspot back to its original name and password.

If you encounter issues, repeat the steps above.
