I'm new to Canon and the 300 and have Sequoia and tried to recognize the driver in photoshop. Just can't seem to find it in plug-ins or automate. All the Canon applications are stored separately from Adobe's. Is that right?

I've rebooted PS a couple of times, but still can't seem to find it. Printing with PS is fine, but I've heard printing with the Canon interface is better.

sorry to be such a doofus....

I’ve been using my Pro-300 on my M1 iMac (OS14 Sonoma) for over a year with no problems. I just updated to OS15 Sequoia, and when I install the driver (via the online setup) it keeps installing the AirPrint version of the driver. There was a procedure to get around with Sonoma, but it’s not working with Sequoia. I checked the Pro-300 Firmware, and it's 2.0, the latest.

Has anyone been able to run the Pro-300 on an Apple Silicon Mac with Sequoia, and if so how do you get around the AirPrint issue?

Ed

I have a PRO-1000 and my M1 Mac Studio wasn't able to print after updating to macos 15 / Sequoia. I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling the drivers but the driver installation crashes during the "Add Printer" step. If I instead use the built-in driver I can add the printer but the Canon software doesn't recognize the printer.

It's not the same problem you're seeing but there does appear to be an issue with macos 15.

Thanks Pat. I thought I checked all my software compatibility before updating to 15, but I forgot about the Pro-300. I will contact Canon Support.

Yes, but with difficulty. I only received my new pro 300 printer today and I could not understand why it was installing the Airprint driver. I finally connected the printer via USB, downloaded the printer driver and installed the driver. Funnily, I deliberately avoided the CUPS driver version, but in the end this is the one that appeared. I then proceeded to remove the Airprint driver, restarted the Macbook.

Nevertheless, it was all a bit of a waste of time as the driver does not work correctly when printing from Capture One. It does work when using Canon's print layout software.

All very annoying. I wish Canon would advise users.

Same problem I believe. I just purchased the new PRO-1100 and I run into the same problem on macOS Sequoia. When I try installing the driver, the process just crashes and shows me an error message produced by CIJAutoSetupTool2S. I haven't found a solution, nor do I know how/where to talk to any kind of tech support.

I did a few more tests and managed to get it working via a good old USB cable. The problem seems to be related to installing the driver when the printer is network connected. Whether it is wireless or wired does not seem to matter, it fails on both attempts.

Thank you all for your great input and patience while I contacted Canon Tech Support for Pro Printers. BTW, that number is 800-652-2666.

I did speak to a Canon tech this morning and she informed me that the MacOS 15 Sequoia driver for the ImagePROGRAF printers is in fact NOT available yet. She also said that updates come out every Thursday, so it looks like we’re now at least a week away - assuming that the update will even be ready by next Thursday.

Regarding some of the responses to my original post, I have a couple of comments.

I normally print to my Pro-300 through Photoshop CC, and I can still print an image that way, but it’s useless because Sequoia only recognizes the AirPrint driver and you only have limited functionality with that driver. The print colors come out awful because you don’t have access to all the setting in the Media & Quality section, and the Color Management settings are definitely not being recognized.

I couldn’t get it to work from Canon’s Professional Print & Layout app either. When I submitted the print job, the Canon print Job Manager just reported an error with no details (Errors 1000, 1250, 1600, and 1668 whatever they mean).

Regarding the USB connection comments, make sure all of your Color Management and Media/Quality settings are in fact working properly. Maybe some basic printing functionality will work through the old driver, but please confirm that Color Management is working properly as well as full functionality of all the Media & Quality settings. It would be good to know if USB is a full functioned workaround until the new driver is released. I don't have cable handy to try it.

Also regarding connection via USB, I originally tried that when I got the Pro-300 a couple years ago, and noticed that I didn’t have access to all the printer Utility functions via USB (Nozzle Check, Cleaning, Print Head Alignment, etc.). I could only do those utilities from the Pro-300 front panel. That was two years ago and I haven’t tried USB since then, so maybe the Utilities work through USB now.

Patnotz, if you hear anything new via your ticket submission, please let us know.

Let’s all hope for a Sequoia driver next Thursday.

Ed

I just received the Pro 1100 today. I am experiencing similar problems. When I install the printer driver, it shows that the driver is printed through AirPrint. However, when I started printing with Canon printing software, all functions, including color management, were working correctly. I am able to choose the paper profile ICC and all necessary color management settings. Here is the screenshots

Hi Kikala,

Thanks for the input and the great screen shots. I have all that functionality via the Canon PPL app as well. The problem I have with the PPL app is that the print job manager just kicks out an error when I try to print. Even though I am connected to the printer (via WiFi) and can check the printer status, do nozzle checks, etc., it just won't print through the PPL app.

I should have clarified this, but in my last post when I was talking about limited functionality of the driver via AirPrint, I was referring to using the driver through Photoshop, not the PPL app. And interestingly, I CAN print that way (again via WiFi), but I don't have all the Media & Quality settings, and by viewing the prints, Color Management is definitely not working.

Just out of curiosity, how are you connected, USB or WiFi?

Ed

I use Wi-Fi and install all the software available on the Canon website. All media and colour management are available; I also tested in Lightroom Classic, and all the same, I printed some photos, and all image's colours are correct. The only problem I can't avoid is the AirPrint option because the current printer driver is not working. I have a MacBook Pro M1 Sequoia 15. I saw many reviews on YouTube, and everyone mentioned that if you print with the Airprit function, you are limited with colour management and printer full capabilities. Still, I don't understand why I have not problems with Airprint.

I received a response from Canon this morning. They're targeting a Sequoia driver by the end of October. Oof.

Here's the verbatim response:

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand the importance of having Canon Pro-1000 driver available for macOS 15. Our development team is actively working on an update to ensure compatibility with the latest macOS version.

At this time, the release is expected by the end of October. We appreciate your patience, and we’ll keep you informed once the update is available.

If you need further assistance in the meantime, feel free to reach out.

I presume this applies for their whole line of printers, not just the 1000.

Thanks for the follow-up patnotz. Ouch, that’s a long stretch, but let’s hope it happens sooner than later.

The moral of the story here is to check ALL app compatibility before upgrading. I thought I checked everything, but it seems that something always slips through a crack. I’m going to try to resurrect an old laptop and see if I can get it running on that for now.

Please post back if you hear some good news directly from Canon, and thanks for all your help on this!

Ed

Does anyone know if the update has been situated yet? Also, I have a stupid question.. When Canon does have the update, how does this get installed? Does just deleting and re-adding the printer in Printers and Scanners update it?
