I just purchased a new MF654CDW printer, and (seemingly) installed it without any issues. I first connected it to our local network, and was able to connect to the printer and successfully print some test pages.

Next, I configured the printer to use Airprint capability, and was able to successfully print images from my iOS device. However, once I did this, the printer no longer appeared on the Ethernet network.

It is not unreasonable to want to use BOTH connections without having to change any settings on the printer. When can I expect to see new firmware rolled out to support this very reasonable request?

What operating system are you using the printer with. Version and build?

You have it connected to your network via Ethernet but also want to use AirPrint?

What setting(s) did you change to "enable" this. I'm asking because I have have an environment with mixed devices, PC, Mac, Android and iOS. I didn't have to change anything to use ethernet and AirPrint simultaneously depending on the device.

Have you considered using the Canon print app on your iOS device. I can provide more details once I have better understanding of your environment.

Thanks for responding. I saw an article from Canon that stated the Ethernet LAN and the wireless LAN cannot be active at the same time. If there is a way to use the wireless for Airprint while continuing to use the Ethernet LAN, that would be fabulous.

My wife wanted to use AirPrint, and the MF654CDW didn't show up on her iPhone. I had to switch the printer from Wired LAN to Wireless LAN and then AirPrint worked. She was not happy that an adjustment had to be made on the printer. She just wants it to work without having to mess with any settings. She is now questioning my choice of printer. Please help! She is getting cranky about it.

AirPrint is a feature of Apple's wireless networking protocol.

I suspect you are using a consumer router that supports wired and wireless communication. Unless you're using a guest network with isolation, all devices connected to the network regardless of interface (wired or wireless) can see one another and communicate.

AirPrint works regardless of the printer's connection method. To test, I used a MacBook Pro M1. It was running Sonoma 14.6 when I turned it on. I added the printer successfully as an AirPrint printer. I then updated to Sequoia 15.1 and was able to perform the same test successfully.

One thing you may want to point out to your wife. The Canon drivers are full featured and are a much better option to airprint. I also printed directly from an iPAD again using AirPrint, no drivers. I own 2 Canon laser printers. One is connected via ethernet, the other wireless. Both however behave the same way.

The printer networking is set to Wired LAN. I can access it just fine from any of the computers on my network, using the remote UI and normal printing.

I can also access the printer from my iPhone via Safari. I can use the remote UI without any issues. 'Use AirPrint' is turned on.

When I try to use AirPrint from my iPhone, it says 'No AirPrint printers found'. I have searched for solutions and am getting nowhere. Is there some arcane setting that needs to be configured?

In my personal experience, when AirPrint didn't work for me, it was an mDNS issue. I keep my printers wired, and anything that can have a static IP address has a static IP address - that way, when anything goes to sleep, it won't "fall off" the network and be re-assigned a random IP.

I made no "special" changes to the settings on either printer. I suspect the only difference between our environments besides network hardware is that I use static IP address' for both devices. When I search for the device on OSX or iOS devices, I am presented with MF650c Series (etc) and all I do is change the drop down box to AirPrint and it adds the device. At this point, you might want to reach out to Canon Support. There could be something in your environment keeping the printer from being detected.
