I have repeatedly used the "easy setup" to get the printer on the network. sometimes it will work, but most of the time I am getting an error message that says that my printer is offline. It works fine if I connect by USB, but I bought it so I wouldn't HAVE to connect with a cord. I wanted a WIRELESS printer.

Thanks egghear8488 I thought I was going crazy - I also have the MX series (340) and I cannot register my wireless option. I cannot change the number pad to an alphabet pad (all caps) do you know how to do it? But then maybe I will also have the same "offline" issue.

Hi egghead8488,

For the best wireless communication conditions possible, we will want to ensure that the network devices are suitably located. To do this, please ensure the following:

1. The access point is located indoors within the effective range for wireless communication; this would be within 50 meters of the access point.

2. There are no obstructions blocking wireless communcation. Wireless communication between different rooms or floors is generally poor. If possible, adjust the location of the devices so that the wireless router is as close to the printer as possible.

3. There is no source of radio wave interference in your vicinity. There may be a device such as a microwave oven using the same frequency bandwidth as the wireless station. Place the wireless devices as far away from the interference source as possible.

I hope this helps -- if you still experience difficulty, please feel free to contact a technical support representative at 1-800-652-2666 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., EST, Monday - Friday and someone will be happy to assist you.

I am near tears. My machine is also turned on, my internet connectivity is excellent, the blue WiFi light is on, and I MUST print and send some personal documents asap via fax. However, I can't print my documents, although the copy button has been depressed and there are no obstructions in the way and I am physically two rooms away in the house. The LCD seems to be in print mode, yet --- nothing! There is noone to speak to by phone either. This is horrible....I desperately need help......:smileysad

Hello,

I have the same problem. It is not the wireless connection at least in my case. I am using a laptop on my wireless and I bought this printer so I can print from the laptop. I set it up it works for a while and then when I really need to print something, it will start showing the printer is offline. I go to the printer, turn it off and back on and it still keep saying the same thing. The printer says it is online, all lights on, I print the wireless settings to make sure nothing changed, but still the same result. It is very frustrating. Most of the time, I will have to uninstall and reinstall the printer. This is some problem with the design or the printer or the software.

Thanks,

Hi Karl1,

I am using Windows 8. I had similar problem with my old latop with Windows 7. I bought this printer so I could use it with my laptop when I need to print something. I leave the printer on so I could print when needed, it looks like the network cannot detect it when it is on for a while. I end up taking laptop to the printer and use USB to print. It has been going on since I bought it. It works wirelessly for me when I install it fresh (I used to remove this printer and install fresh once in a while becase of this problem). At this point, I have given up on the wireless functionality, but it is only for the wireless functionality that I bought this printer.

Thanks,

I have also been having the same problem ever since I bought this printer. I have done all of the things that Canon says to do and NOTHING works. This is a flawed product and I think Canon should replace these printers with a new one that works (hopefully they read this board and work out glitches in their products!). Just to review: my printer is literally 15 feet away from my laptop with no obstructions whatsoever, there is no microwave running (or any other "waves" that might interfere), I have uninstalled and reinstalled printer software on 3 different occasions on TWO DIFFERENT laptops, I have unplugged and plugged, turned off and on, cursed at it, spoken nicely to it....AND NOTHING WORKS.

For those of you who read this who are looking for a wireless printer to buy, DO NOT GET THIS ONE. Until Canon makes it right.

Have you guys figured out a fix? Seems like there is an common problem going on. Same as everyone else, I have turned on/off, unplugged. I have moved the printer from the basement to the upstairs so it's closer to the router. I had the same problem on our other laptop and i deleted and re-added the driver so many times, it won't re-add to driver. I ended up buying a cheap $50 HP at Walmart for that laptop but I haven't had any issues with connecting from any laptop, tablet, or smartphone so i end up using that printer a lot more.

I really don't want to spend an afternoon on the phone with the help desk.

Me too, can't access it via either of the laptops. Blue light working fine, can print via USB cable. Used to work fine, now won't really frustrating. Even got virgin out thinking it was them, got a new hub, but made no difference whatsoever. Really frustrating canon. I have accessed online troubleshooting etc etc. It guzzles ink like nobody's business. Am thinking of buying a new printer, one that will work and would avoid buying canon again!

Solved Issue!!!
Go into your printer and print out your Network Configuration, then use windows 8 to connect to it by IP address manually (DO NOT use the cannon software if running windows 8!!!) In windows 8 go to add a printer and after it doesnt detect it, you will then be able to add by name/ IP or manually. I select IP and set mine up within 1 minute. I hope this helps some of you out.

Had the same problem. Before you start anything try this.

1-When you try to print something an Icon of a printer appears in your bottom taskbar.

2-Double click on the printer icon and when it opens click on printer. Make sure that

"use printer offline" is "NOT clicked on" or your printer will say that your printer is off line

and not print.

Bought a new printed but decided to try and get my wireless Canon MX410 working.

I tried to re install it and when it asked me to try reinstalling again because of a failed attempt,

I first looked at the settings on the printer and this is how I fixed my problem.

1- Press the (Menu )button.

2- Keep pressing Menu till you get to (device) setting.

3- Scroll by pressing the right arrow under the plus sign

till (LAN setting) appears and press OK.

4- Now scroll again to find ( Wireless LAN setup)

press OK. Chose (easy setup ) when it come up, press OK.

5- A search comes up and ask you to select access point.

6- Chose the name you gave your router by scrolling and

press OK

7- Enter passphrase comes up. Enter your router's password now.

8- Use the star (*) on your printer's number pad to change CAPITAL,

small or numbers ( e.g... Ab1) to enter your password one letter or number at a time.

9- I continued the setup I first started and this time, for me everything was OK.

Thanks Knowitall1979!!!!!!! I didnt want to sit on hold with customer service, get transfered multiple times, explain my story multiple times, etc etc.... Obviously there is an issue because the internet is full of this complaint. For the canon rep on this forum to say contact cust service is BS!!. I have an expensive gaming router and FIOS internet. I am running windows 8 on a brand new laptop. I am sitting 5 feet from router. No reason it shouldnt work. Knowitall1979 your solution worked. Thank you Thank You Thank You!!!!!
