The router and printer are next to each other. The problem is the printer does not work with modern 802.11ac wifi 5. Is a firmware update available or a way to turn on security encryption so the printer asks for the wifi 5 security passcode?

My Canon TS8350a printer works great with older Wifi (g/n) but does not work with Wifi 5 (802.11ac). When I select the Wifi 5 network, the printer skips asking for the wifi security code and then errors with “Failed to connect to the wireless network”. I have restarted the router and printer to no avail. The printer display shows “Wifi encryption: none” for the Wifi5 connections and I cannot find a way to enable the encryption. I bought the printer only a few months ago and yet it is already to old to use on a modern Wifi connection??? I did not found any firmware updates... Is there anything I can do to make the printer work?

Welcome to The Canon Community, and thank you for your inquiry!

We appreciate your participation, however, we need to let you know that the Canon Community is hosted and moderated within the United States by Canon USA. We are only able to provide support for Canon products manufactured for and used within the US market.

If you live outside the United States, please CLICK HERE and select your country or region for your support needs.

You're welcome to discuss Canon products sold outside of the United States, but please be aware that you will not receive support directly from Canon USA.

THAT BEING SAID,

To set up your printer, you need a solid 5GHz WiFi connection. That usually means you should be in the same room as your router or access point. If there are walls between the printer and signal, it can interfere during setup. If your printer will be positioned in another room of the house, you might want to try to set it up first, then move it.

Greetings,

The specs for this model do list 5Ghz, but at 802.11a standard. This is 54Mbps and not what anyone would expect for a 5Ghz broadcast.

Page 251 of user guide:

TS8300ser_OnlineManual_Win_EN_V01.pdf (c-wss.com)

Because of this, I recommend connection to a 2.4Ghz broadcast using WPA2 / AES encryption.
