Hello Teamh2005,

Because there are many routers available to consumers, I suggest you check with your router's manufacturer to determine if the 5222 port is being blocked. Please check with Google about the protocol that is used with port 5222.

If you need immediate assistance and you're in the USA, please click http://Canon.us/ContactCF for our US-based support.

Hello,

I have a Canon MF8280cw and I've used Google cloud print on this printer for years without issue until spring of 2017. One day about year ago, Google cloud print stopped working with the error "Server Communication Error.". For the last year, I've called Canon, who first told me it was a Google Cloud print problem, only to have Google say that the problem was with the Canon printer.

I have been able to get it to function on and off by performing firmware upgrades (on most recent firmware from 04/18), taking off the use of certificates, resetting up Google Cloud Print, unregistering/registering the printer to GCP (doesn't always work, sometime it takes many attempts). However, anytime I have gotten it to GCP again, it only works for a few days, then goes back to the Server Communication error. Straight WIFI printing on my internal network always prints without issue.

Please help, it's currently not able to GCP again, this is extremely frustrating and the main reason I bought this printer was for the Google Cloud print function.

Hello Teamh2005,

When your Color imageCLASS MF8280Cw displays "Cannot use Cloud printing. (Server communication error.)", as you have seen, Cloud Print is unavailable due to an error. Because straight WIFI printing always works on your internal network, your printer is working correctly. However, a port that is used for Cloud Print may be blocked by a firewall or other protection. I suggest you check whether the 5222 port is available from your computer.

If the issue persists, please check with Google to confirm that their Cloud Print servers are working.

If you need immediate assistance and you're in the USA, please click http://Canon.us/ContactCF for our US-based support.

Hello,

I think you may be onto something. My gut feeling is that my router may be part of the problem. Would you know where and how I should configure the router to allow communication to port 5222? What protocol should I ensure is going to listen to port 5222?

Thanks for your help!

Hello, many thanks for your help. After talking it through with Verizon FIOS, we opened all TCP port connections to the printer IP (inbound/outbound) and that resolved the problem after I re-ran the setup for Google Cloud print. Glad I attempted to this forum again, this is the 3rd attempt and finally a solution was found!
