Cannon ix6850 - chromebook acer 514 pairing

Hello, I hope i'm asking in the right location.

Could someone explain to me please in very simple terms how to get my cannon ix6850 printer to work with my acer 514 chromebook. Surely a brand new printer will work with most tablets and chromebooks? I have tried all sorts and have failed. Any help gratefully recieved even if its to tell me its not possible and to give up trying.
