My understanding of the SX50 is that if you put the camera in video mode, then everything is pretty much automatic. If you use the P mode, then you can set the Exposure Compensation before starting the video with the video button. I don't think that the setting can be changed once the video has started though. There is a notation to make sure that exposre is not locked when you want to change the exposure compensation value, so just make sure it's not locked. Check page 110 of the owner's manual for the procedure.

The aperture cannot be changed at all once the video is running. I believe you'd need to be using a DSLR or ILC to do that.

Steve M.

Hello, is it possible to adjust the shutter or aperature while in movie mode ? I push the e/v button and a slider appears at the bottom of the screen in the middle position but when the dial is turned there is no change. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

The answer is typically no, but we would need to know which camera model you are asking about to give an exact answer.

Steve M.

Oh I'm sorry I guess that would help! It's a powershot sx50 hs, I saw a video that would suggest that the sx40 could do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lHwno6mjzA, so I'm assuming (perhaps that's the issue!) that it can be done with the sx50. The fact that something displays would lead me to think something's possible no ?

Now THAT is very interesting indeed. On my SX50 I can't find a way to adjust Aperture while videoing. And here, and I do remember seeing that video on YT, that there appears to be such and adjustment. Hmm.... Is there a CHCK that allows this?

The SX60 does both Aperture AND Focus while videoing. This is the one reason I'd be upgrading.

Grazie
