duplicate shots recording...why?

My new sx700 is recording duplicate shots. I am shooting on auto and am not holding down the shutter button unusually long. This isn't always happening...about every 3rd or 4th shot. Does this sound like the camera is malfunctioning or is there some setting that I don't know about? Thank you, all!

Hi Annie, In Auto mode your camera decides what scene to shoot. Some scenes that your camera deicdes to shoot in will take more than one shot. Take a look at the page I included especially at the very bottom where you can trun off continuos shooting. When you press your shutter button halfway down is when those icons appear.
