Filter and other adaptors fitted to the lens.

Received a SX50HS as a b'day gift. Still learning all the bells and whistles. Is it possible to find a third party UV filter holder manufacturer who builds an adaptor that will fit the lens screw, or is the screw a few straight grooves and really not a thread, and also accept a stepup or stepdown adaptor allowing me to use previous camera filters and WA lens? I understand the Canon UV adaptor has a maximum 67MM diameter and is not threaded inside or outside to accept any additional accessories. Thanks for your help!

Yes there are plenty of options first get a FA-DC67A Filter adapter either the Canon brand or others. It twists on and it fits on locks with keyed detents on the lens, no threads. From there you can use any 67 mm filter or accessory. Also there is a lens hood that you can buy that fits on just like the filter adapter LH-DC10. I bought the Canon brand but there are many other non-Canon brands too. I also got a 67 mm to 58 mm adapter to use my older lens attachments.

I have ordered an A-DC67A Filer adaptor but as yet have not received it. Have all the other necessary filters and adaptors (I think) to use older accessories as you do. Hope to know soon. Thanks. for the info. Charlie

Hi John;

Finally received the FA-DC67A adaptor you suggested to fit my Canon SX50HS. That particular adaptor does fit but with the UV filter, a 67mm to 58mm adaptor and my wide angle lens added, the weight is so high there is separation of the

FA-DC67A adaptor from the Canon Lens. Is there any way I will be able to use my older accesssories on this new camera without damage? Did Canon make a mistake by designing a new lens attachment and not utilizing what has worked for so many years on so many cameras?

Fearing breaking something I did not twist the FA adaptor enoough to lock. Sorr y to have wasted any of your time.

I would have preferred a threaded mount myself which is 10X stronger and able to hold the weight. I have the 58MM wide angle lens also and I have used it a couple of times. I didnt noticed the adapter seperating (yet) but I can see how it will..its. only plastic. Maybe someone makes a metal one ? That would be the only thing I can think of to prevent that from happening.

Some others might say you dont need the wide angle lens with this but in my mind if I have it I will try and use it and see what effects I can achieve with my different lens attachment without damaging anything.

Charlie Im going to search around and see if there is a stronger metal one out there and if I find one Ill let you know.

Hi John;

Just read your reply. Yes a thread mount would be much better but I would be extremely cautious about finding a metal adaptor to fit the lens. Of course IT would be stronger but the lens front remains the same and any unusual added weight might damage the front and cause more frustration, repair and cost (...it's only plastic!)

Adding any 58mm filters, X adaptors or other non-heavy accessories should work fine. Please be careful!!!

I am so fortunate and pleased I found this forum and made contact with you, a person so very helpful curing issues of other photographers. Should you find/determine any new products/resources etc. for our cameras, please post.
