To my knowledge the external display is only available for playback not live viewing on all the Powershot cameras.

Powershot SX500IS. Is it possible to link my camera to my desktop Mac so I can view what I am recording? (In camera mode). Of course I can view the imagery via the camera display but I want to be able to view it real time on a bigger display. Thank you.

Unfortunately no. Some of the PowerShot cameras used to have that ffeature, but it has been removed once the video standard was changed from VGA and SVGA to the newer formats. Tethering is an option on some of the EOS cameras, but mostly for the mid to higher end Canon DSLR's.

Steve M.
