Lens error message for S100

I have a Canon S100. The lens will not retract. I get a Lens Error message. Will shut down automatically. Restart Camera.
It is not shutting down, I cannot restart the camera.

Dixic,

Please remove the battery from the camera for a few minutes, then reinstall the battery and power the camera on again. If the error is still displayed, then the camera will need to be repaired.

I called Canon. They told me it was defective part. I had registered the camera, but never received an email explaining the problem. They sent me a UPS label to send the camera in for repiar.
