PowerShot V1 front red light only fires with remote shutter

I have a Canon Powershot v1. The front red light flashes every time I takes a selfie.

1. The red flash only fires when using a BLE remote (SmallRig SG-RG2). If using the camera shutter then there is no red flash

2. It is not AF assist lamp. I turned AF assist lamp off and no effect. The red flash also does not fire during focusing (half-press). It fires after the photo was taken.

Is there a way to turn this off? If this is intended to serve as indicator light then it is way too strong. It hurts my eyes so bad that the afterimage takes a while to disappear.

I don't have the PowerShot V1 or the SmallRig SG-RG2 remote, but I do have something similar in the form of the EOS R10 and another bluetooth remote similar to Canon's BR-E1.

When taking a photo with my camera using the remote, the red LED on the front of the camera flashes as the photo is taken, which sounds exactly like what you are experiencing with your PowerShot V1 and SmallRig remote. I cannot find a way round this either, so it seems to be "the way that Canon designed it".

Have you tried black electrical tape or gaffer tape over the red light?

Well a black tape may be the last resort. I can hardly imagine I need to do this for a brand-new, highly rated camera.

This same light also serves as AF-assist and red-eye reduction. by taping the light I basically lose these function as well. Wish there is a separate on/off control for remote control confirmation.
