Nostalgic For Old Canon

I had a Canon PowerShoot A4000 IS digital camera. From back in the day. I lost it after 10 years or so, and after mourning its loss, I'm ready to replace it. Only not with a current Canon, but a camera from back in the day. I take good pictures, but I am a total schlub when it comes to technology. For instance, I use an old flip phone and a laptop for all my needs, So I want my old camera back because I knew how to work it. I'd have real trouble with a new camera, just as I would with a smart phone. I'm asking the community where I would find such a camera.

Generally, today's compact cameras are not all that different than your A4000. The *specs* have improved greatly, but the operation is pretty much the same. You can use it like a basic point and shoot if you want.

But the only way to get the kind of camera you want is ebay, the used market or thrift stores.

Yes, I am looking at e-bay. But there's no way to get a brand-spanking new one- is that what you're saying?

But that's good advice about new compact cameras, that I can just use one as a point and shoot. Do you think the memory card and battery are still the same in newer Canons?

No, you can’t buy them new. (You can look on Wikipedia to see when it was discontinued. The SD cards are the same form factor, they hold more data. Batteries are now proprietary. The A series generally used AA’s

the other problem is that the market has dropped out for these kinds of cameras. Most people just use their phone.

"The market has dropped out..." Makes sense. The infernal smart phones. I saw three family members at a skate park. All were sitting looking at theirs. Outside.

The A series did not run on conventional batteries. They use flat batteries that were inserted and recharged in a provided plug in charger.

Many of the A series did use AA. My first digital camera, an A400 used them.

We have an A75 and A720is both use AA batteries and both cameras are functional. The “off the shelf” batteries probably helped that.
