Hello

I recently found an old camera of my (Powershot S2 IS) and I'm in need of assistance. Canon no longer provide services for this camera and I would like to make it work again. My problem given the number of years of no use of this camera, the battery melted inside of it and now I'm unable to open the battery compartment. My question is how do I remove the old battery from the camera?

Thanks

SH

Not sure what you mean by "melted" since you cannot open the door to see it? I'm assuming you're seeing signs of leak perhaps?

It's likely though that the camera is just not repairable at this point.

For the future, always remove batteries from electronics when they will not be used for a while.

you need a contact cleaner to get rid of that battery corrosion from the battery terminal. a can of electronic contact cleaner and some household tools i.e. Q-tips, tweezers, and flat-head screwdriver are the things you will need to do solve the issue. DO NOT tap the camera against solid surfaces instead, try picking the corrosion away from the compartment until you have a clear view of the battery. use a tweezer to pull the battery up and out and use the blower to clear the debris. Spray remaining corrosion with contact cleaner and let AIR DRY. make sure to wear some eye and mask protection before using the chemical. the contact cleaner will break down the residue for you to easily pick and clean AWAY from the compartment. Good luck, bud!
