I dropped my camera whilst trying to take a picture. It is very much stuck in this wonky position. When I try to turn it on it gives an error message and turns its self back off. What should i do and is it fixable?

Oh no! You'll need to contact support for options. They're at 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666) weekdays from 9am to 6pm (ET).

Accidents do happen. Hopefully it's repairable and won't be too expensive. Once you get it back, please put the included wrist strap that came with the camera on it. This can help avoid these types of accidents. 😉

I just had the same misfortune as you and the lens motor is making noises that it shouldn't be making. I contacted Canon repair support and they told me that they don't actually repair anything - they just replace the camera - at your cost, of course. I'm a VERY, VERY unhappy camper at the moment, held hostage by a system that offers me a take-it-or-leave-it solution. I had no other choice than to opt for the "repair" which basically gets a refurbished camera sent to me at a slightly lower cost than a brand-new camera, and with a shorter warranty period. The whole thing sucks. I'll opine that fixing this camera's lens issue was probably a $100 repair, if that - but there's no such thing as "repair" at Canon. Good luck with whatever choice you make, because all the options are unpalatable.

Greetings,

Repairs are very normal. However, sometimes its not possible. Unfortunately, the cost to repair an item like yours often exceeds replacement value. Once something is dropped, it could have hidden damage which only gets exposed with a teardown. I'm sure you'll be better off with a refurbished replacement. In the future, consider protecting your purchase with it's wrist strap or a CarePak.

I was told by Canon that they don't do repairs - just ship you a "refurbished" camera. Yes, I had a wrist strap on the camera, but it was not in use as I had perched on something to take a selfie and it fell off. I would have been far more careful if I knew the price of these cameras now.
