PowerShot A590 IS says "Change batteries" with fully-charged batteries

I put in fully-charged batteries and camera says "CHANGE BATTERIES." This happens repeatedly. The camera is old but always a favorite. Any suggestions?

If the batteries are as old as the camera, you may need new ones.

Nope -- they're new batteries, rechargeable, and fully charged.

Sometimes these old camera do not like rechargeable batteries. I've seen this a lot.

Try fresh alkaline AAs and see what happens.
