Ooh, that's bad.

I thought it was the combination AVout/USB that Canon used on some cameras and you plugged into the USB port to charge.

That AV out port is not designed to accept voltage. You probably damaged the camera.

IXUS 30 Completely Black Screen

Hello! I have a Canon IXUS 30 camera that I used to use 10 years ago. Back then it worked perfectly fine, as it also did when I picked it back up 4 years ago, only that I had lost the charger. Once the battery had run out, I tried other ways of charging the camera without the charger, once trying to charge it by connecting it to a plug (in the wall) throughout the AV/OUT port, that's located on the upper-right side of the camera.

To make myself clear, I had a cable with an end that fit into the AV/OUT port and a normal plug on the other end. I plugged that into the camera and to the wall and hoped that it would charge it somehow, which after some time I discovered it did not.

I didn't try again until now that I finally got a new charger that's just like the original the camera came with. But when I put a new, fully charged battery in, the screen won't do anything. It's just completely black. The green power light turns on, but no text/menus will show up at all. The lens works and it even takes photos and videos, I've checked and they appear on the SD card. The problem is that I can't see the digital viewfinder on the screen of the camera or access the settings, as the screen is completely black.

It seems like everything works perfectly fine except the screen, which is always black. Could my hazardous attempt at charging it have damaged just the screen? What can I do to fix it, whatever the problem may be?

Thank you and I hope you can help me.

I assume by "normal plug" you mean USB. If you mean the RCA jacks, than you might have damaged the camera by applying power to those.

If there is an info or disp button, you can try pressing that.

I plugged it into the AV/OUT jack, I don't know if that's what you're referring to. I tried pressing the disp button, once, twice and holding it, but nothing happens.

Thanks for your help and hopefully we can solve this issue.

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Do you know any way of fixing this issue at home or should I take the camera to a repair center?
