Dear Community

My Canon G7X Mark I (one) won't suddenly turn on. I do have two Canon original NB-13L batteries, fully charged with the original canon NB-13L battery charger provided with my G7X.

I assume both batteries are full, as the LED charger shows them "green".

I must admit, I didn't used them for the last 4 weeks but this has never been an issue, as you can tell by the model of my camera. it is old. But one of the battery I bought 7 month ago. At last that battery should still be fine.

Putting the batteries in, closing the lid of the battery casing, the G7X won't turn on! Just nothing happend.

I looked into the battery casing and the 4 Pins are all intact and not corroded. The golden plated contacts of the the batteries are clean as well.

But just nothing happens.

The problem is, stupid me packed averyhting without testing at home and now I am in the middle of nowwhere planning a diving tomorrow and I can't take my Canon G7X with me (of course with a underwater casing).

Any idea what might be wrong? The camera worked flawlessly mid May. Alos the batteries didn't drain within an unreasonable amount of time - so they should be fine.

Should I try to clean the contacts nonehelass? Nail polish maybe? We do not have special tools on board.

thank you!

I would recommend calling 1-800-OK-CANON to talk to a tech support person

Dear Trevor,

thank you for your immediate reply! Unfortunately calling tech support is not a suitable option right now, as we are on the move - will for sure, once at home - but can't on our trip. Really stupid of not checking my gear before departure!

We are back home and I had a closer look to the battery compartement. Everything looks fine inside. I've tested the batteries (NB-13L) with a multimeter and they show 4.09V and 4.12V, so they look fine as well.

But I have still no idea why it just won't turn on after I used the camera 2 months ago.

Unfortunately other posts on the internet for similar models (Mark II and Mark III) do not have suitable solution, as the mark I does not have a USB charging port.

Is there a contact switch for the battery cap? The battery cap has a small notch with a spring. My spring is not springy anymore (since years). But if there is a contact to check if the battery cap is closed, maybe this contact switch is broken now? I now from other cameras which have a contact switch and you cannot turn the camera on unless the battery cap i closed.

Is disassembling and checking the cables a solution?
