These are the likely causes.

Faulty or malfunctioning memory card.

Using a 3rd party battery that is causing an over voltage situation.

Faulty image sensor.

If the lines appear on the LCD and not in photos, it's the LCD. Causes, age of device. Camera being dropped, etc.

If lines appears in photos, it's the camera's sensor or other hardware inside the camera. Check the memory card. If a new card exhibits the same behavior, it's likely the sensor or internal electronics. Lines appearing in photos must be checked by downloading images off a known good card and viewing on a computer. Seeing them only on the LCD is not an indication of the cause.
