When I turn on my G5X PowerShot camera, the LCD screen flashes on for about 1 second and the shuts itself down. I can still use the viewfinder to look at menu, playback and other such features. Does anyone know why the screen is malfunctioning and how to fix it?

Hello Mike74,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your camera. Let's try resetting the camera to factory default settings. This can be found in the Menu under the wrench menu tab #4. Try cleaning the battery contacts with a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Dirty contacts could cause an issue like this. Do not use any kind of solution when trying this. You can try a separate battery as well to see if that helps. If the issue persists, then you would need to send the camera into our factory service center.

I know that this is an old post, but I've had exactly the same issue and found a solution in my case.

There is a small sensor to the bottom right of the EVF. All I had to do was clean it with a cotton bud and optical cleaning solution and the problem disappeared.

This sensor detects when you put the camera to your eye and if it gets dirty then it turns off the rear screen shortly after it is enabled.
