Downloading Photos from Camera to Laptop - PowerShot SX610 HS

Starting about a few months ago using my usual downloading procedure of photos from my SX610 HS Canon camera, I found the steps to accomplish this feat new and confusing. I need some simple instructions on how to do this.

Here were my usual procedure steps that I used to follow:

Turn Laptop on
Connect the PowerShot SX610 HS camera USB cable to my camera’s audio video output port into the USB port of my laptop (Windows 10)
Turn my camera on
After a short period the laptop screen goes black and then options that were easy allowed me to copy specific photos in the camera to specific picture folders in my camera.

But now, after step 3 above, I find a new screen titled “Canon PowerShot SX610 HS”:

In the upper left corner of this new screen are the following options:

All photos

Memories

Favorites

Folders

External Devices

Canon PowerShot SX610 HS

In the top line of the screen is an item Import

In the very center of the screen are the pictures in the camera.

I’m lost on how to proceed from here to successfully load pictures from Camera to Laptop.

Can someone tell if there is a short video (or a write up) that explains the utility (how to work) this screen and were to find it?

I do not have a smart phone.

How do I make it work to load pictures from my Canon Camera to my Laptop using the connecting cable?

The simple thing to do is disable the utility that is opening automatically when you connect camera to computer. It is what is confusing you.

You don't need any app/utility to copy/move from camera to computer. Connecting them should mount the camera on computer as a drive in File Explorer. Then you open the drive, open the DCIM folder, and copy/move the photo files to wherever you want them to go.

OK .... just treat the Camera as an external data base and grab and drop in Laptop Folder.

This won't mess up the Camera? Will try. Tks GB

No, it will not mess up the camera. It's just moving files.
