Canon SD960 IS lack of format option

Recent Canon SD960 IS purchase. When using 16mb or 32mb cards, the camera indicates "card error". The format option is "greyed out". Tried several different cards, including Canon EOM. Any ideas? Thank you

Is it the right kind of card?

Also make sure the write protect tab is not set to protect. If it is not, the little sensor in the card compartment may be faulty.

Thank you for the response. I have four SD cards, PNY, Raw Steel, and SanDisk 16gb plus a SanDisk 32gb. Tried the protect tab in both positions.

Make sure they are full size SD cards, not the micro-SD cards that use plastic adapters.
