My powershot a310 has a red flash coming from my flash area when I try to take a photo or start taking a video. please help me. Thank you.

Sounds like the Focus Assist beam, and you are in a room that the camera thinks is dimly lit.

Does this happen outdoors on a sunny day, too?

I just recently got the camera. No matter where I use it, it doesn't work

I would reach the same conclusion. It does not work. The camera is over 15 years old.
