Powershot SX260HS Gives a connection error

I have a Powershot SX260HS and I've been transferring pics through the USB-cable for a long time. Some time ago the camera started giving me a connection error instantly when I connect the cable.

I've tried two computers (win7 and win10) and two data cables and the camera always gives the same answer.

Any advice?

Thanks for posting.

This error message means images could not be transferred to the computer due to the large number of JPEG images (approximately 1000) stored on the memory card. We recommend the use of a commercially available USB card reader to transfer the images.

Thanx. I'll give it try. Seems strange since the transfer has been working for years with similar size cards.
