Very cool! You inspired me to do the same thing! I have been waiting for a clear night with a gibbous moon to try some new settings and last night was it. I'm hoping tonight will be the same and I get just a smidge more of of the moon - the full moon is a bit less interesting IMO. And then it will start waning soon. If I were really smart I could take them every night from the same spot and compose a series - sounds like a lot of work and good luck (clear skies), though, but you never know. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a great New Years Eve.

Did some moon photography tests, all handheld with my Canon R6 Mark III, image stabilizer on.

My initial setting was 1/800 as l intended to extend the zoom lens to 400mm and l am using the 2X that minimum shutter speed l sometimes read about. At Av mode, f/8 the camera chose iso 640, with the exposure meter at the zero mark.

I decided to test how far l could get a “sharper” image by using the base iso of 3200 l usually use when shooting dark video or image settings. F/13-14 was possible while l still kept my eye on the zero point of the exposure level meter.

Impressive images if l may say so myself. F/16F/14F/8I set the camera at f/8 and 1/800I set the camera at iso 3200 and 1/800I set the camera again at iso 3200 and 1/800

Attached are the results.
#canon EOS r6 mark iiii

#canon RF 100-400m
