That’s a hard choice, I can see where you need outsiders advice! I love the softness of the coloring. Really beautiful!

I've often created colour and black and white versions of some portraits. Usually I then find I have a preference for one or the other, but this latest pair actually have left me stranded in the middle, unable to decide. In fact sometimes I prefer the colour, sometimes the black and white.

Which of these two is your preference?

Brian,

I pefer the color image.

Reason: The subject's blue eyes draw me in to the photo and overall, I find the color version more pleasing.

Both are good/great shots, but I prefer the color. If the subject's face was weatherbeaten, had some wrinkles and maybe a scar or 2 (tactfully speaking - some character) then I think a black and white portrait brings out that character better and generally I prefer black and white vs. a color shot of the same subject if that were the case.

Overall, superb work!

Totally get where you’re coming from—some portraits really shine in both styles. Colour can bring warmth and life, while black and white adds depth and emotion. Maybe think about the story or mood you want to convey, and let that guide your choice. Sometimes it’s also worth sharing both and letting your audience weigh in!

I would go with black and white. My reasoning is that the background in the color photo looks grey and with the slight bit of wash out, it feels like a picture that was in black and white and then colorized. For me the black and white is more of a consistent tone. Ultimately, if this is a client then it would be her call.
