Planes move fast, you would need to time it just right. Few options below that might help!

1. Have a smaller f-stop (f16-f22). This will give you a greater depth of field, which will have more things in focus. Downside is that you will need to correct the exposure by decreasing your SS or turning up your ISO.

2. If you use a wider aperture (ex. f1.2), then you would need to do the following. The people and the plane are at different distances from your camera when you take a picture. You would have to time it perfectly where the plane is right above the people, this way the plane and people are the roughly same distance horizontally to the camera. Or you can take two different pictures, one with people in focus and one with the plane in focus and them stack them in post.

Greetings,

When you have subjects at various distances from the camera, you have to increase your aperture (f-stop) in order to increase depth of field (focus). The wider the aperture, the more shallow your depth of field will be.

This is challenging (or impossible) when you are shooting in low light or at night. You can only slow your shutter or increase ISO so much before it affects (impacts) image quality.

If you find yourself taking a lot of these type of shots, I recomend getting a wide angle lens like a 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM or even a 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens. The 15-35mm F2.8 L will perform better under low lighting, having said that, the 24-105mm F4 will also perform exceptionally well too. The 24-105mm will give you more versatility than your 85mm prime les.

Thank you. I got a lot of lens if it’s 70-200 2.8 I use there’s a lot of noise that’s why I like the 1.2 or 50 1.4.
