The camera has the optional grip so I can have the spare battery and get a firm grip for hand held shots. When I can (like the crash image of the two Porsches) I shoot with a monopod and I leave the IS on. It works and delivers better (meaning sharper) results. Hope this helps. I'll do a better job next time with the camera data ...
