I took my new RF 15-35mm f2.8 L IS USM lens for a real test spin. See pics : )

I ordered my Canon RF 15-35mm f2.8 L IS USM from Amazon (an official Canon retailer) on Friday November 10, 2023, and received the next day Saturday November 11th. Did some preliminary testing to make sure that it worked like new and without factory defects. It worked like a new lens should and without shipping or factory defects as always. On Wednesday November 8th I went to Filoli Gardens in Woodside, California to really put it to its phases. I'm happy to say that the lens performed as Canon advertised and that I'm very happy that I made the purchase. I read some of the reviews on the Canon website and a couple were downright bad. To the point that the customer stated "Do not to purchase ". This particular person said that he bought it from Canon and got a defective one so he returned it. Then purchased the lens from Amazon with the same results and returned it. He then purchased the lens from B&H and again returned it because it was defective. I have never had any issues or received defective Canon products, so I wrote it off as user problem, and not a manufacturing issue. But nevertheless, I always test my equipment, upon receipt as things could happen during shipping or the one-in-a-million factory defect. I posted a few of the pictures I took at Filoli Gardens Estate for all to see. All pics were taken handheld on M setting. Let me know your thoughts.

Most likely that user didn't know how to use the lens or their camera. 3 duds in a row?!?

Hi Joe,

Nice shots. I'm 30 min north of Filoli right on the coast. It's located in Woodside off Canada Rd. It's a beautiful place. I didn't know we were so close to one another. My wife has visited multiple times. Thanks for sharing.

I'm impressed with the photos. My favorite is the photo through the gate. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I take some of the negative reviews with a grain of sodium chloride; some people are never happy. I have to agree with Danfaz here.

Hi Danfaz, I agree with you that user probably didn't know how to use the lense cause the chances of getting three duds in a row from three different Canon Authorized retailers is 1 in a million. Below is his post which I obviously didn't take seriously. Like Whiz advice me, I took it with copious amounts of sodium chloride. Here is part of that user's review.

I hate to write a poor review of this lens because it is obviously a first-rate design with benchmark performance. However, I must say that of the four samples I have purchased, none were keepers because of what appears to be misaligned lens elements. Parts of the image are significantly blurry at certain focal lengths while most of the image is sharp. I saw this on all of the samples I've tried. Two were ordered direct from Canon, one from Amazon and one from B&H. All were returned. These are the only Canon lenses I have ever returned. I am not alone. Others have experienced the same issues with this lens. "

After reading his review, I thought to myself, Difective User and not a product defect..

Thanks Whiz, for the compliment and advice. Also, I most definitely take reviews like that one with copious amounts of sodium chloride ! Obviously by the fact that I purchased the lens. ; )
